Welcome to Work in Progress, an online video series where we will explore works of art from Gallery 2’s Permanent Collection. Gallery 2 is embarking on a big project to install new storage for our collection and to create a gallery space dedicated to showcasing the many works of art that we take care of. Let’s get inspired and make some art!
In this episode we are getting outside and taking photographs of flowers, inspired by photographic prints of iris flowers by Bill Gobbett in our Permanent Collection. Bill used an interesting technique of placing iris flowers in jars of water and then took photographs of them over the course of several days. We are going to take inspiration from Bill and use flowers as the subject of our photographs. Join as us we create our own flower photographs!
In this episode we are creating self portraits using recycled materials, inspired by an artwork in our Permanent Collection by Courtenay Anderson. Courtenay uses different types of recycled and found materials to create his art, especially scrap wood and metal. We are going to take inspiration from Courtenay and use materials that we can find in our recycling and craft supply bins. Join us as we create our own recycled material self portraits!
In this episode we are creating drawings using pencil. Pencils are a great tool to use for drawing because they are easy to find and are very versatile. We are going to look at a work of art from our Permanent Collection by an artist named Doris Albert. Doris uses many different techniques to create texture and dimension in her drawing – all using pencil! Join us as we create our own pencil drawings!
