Prior to immigrating to B.C in 1975, Doris studied for four years at the Academy of Fine Arts in Karlsruhe, Germany. "I hope my paintings are self explanatory and that the viewer will find their own stories, or maybe mine. That they can feel their way through the images, colours and textures, maybe find something new every time and hopefully a sense of connection." See Doris's work
Pam's work is known for both capturing the rugged beauty of nature and preserving history's fleeting moments. Her most ambitious and popular project was documenting some of the old Doukhobor buildings in the region. "I was greatly moved by the existing Doukhobor houses," said Baker-Stassi in her artists statement. "There was sadness in seeing these heritage buildings continue to fall into disrepair".

My name is Alyssa, and I've been painting and drawing for as long as I can remember. Almost 3 years ago I discovered my passion for watercolor, and really found my stride. I spent hours and hours, day after day trying to learn more and improve my skills, especially in portraiture. I'm self taught, though I've always dreamt of going to art school! I also have two young children that I share my passion with, which is so much fun! My obsession as of late is painting watercolor on a large scale, with watercolor grounds on cradled wood panels! Photography has been my passion for more than 20+ years. The last seven years I have focused on the landscapes of the Boundary area and anywhere I travel throughout BC. It's the adventure it takes me on and finding the ideal conditions and lighting.

My favourite hobbies in the past were curling, playing bridge and lots of crafting, knitting and sewing. About 10 years ago I joined the Sunshine Quilter’s Guild and was hooked immediately. There are so many projects to make and so much beautiful fabric out there. I have met so many talented and interesting women through this medium. We have lots of fun, mostly laughing at our mistakes.

My inspiration as an artist comes from the landscapes that surround us at home as well through travels. I love to create and experiment with different mediums to achieve depth and texture within my paintings. It inspires me when I watch people viewing my work wanting to touch the rocks or the hillsides. see susan's work
Alf Crossley expresses a love for nature though his artwork. His style combines impressionism, expressionism, and the rural setting of Pass Creek just outside of Castlegar where Alf makes his home. It is also the perfect environment for painting “en plein air”. His favourite medium is oils as they offer more flexibility when painting outdoors because of their slow drying qualities.

I have been making art all my life, but that drive became more formalized when I attended the Emily Carr University (then Institute) of Art and Design and completed a degree in 2007. Studying there was a wonderful experience and my eyes were opened to the history of art and new ongoing developments in the field. My studies were followed by a lovely spell of exhibitions in public galleries around the interior of B.C. But life is a funny thing, full of vagaries, and winds both foul and fair. The past four years have been full of such winds, all requiring urgent attention. The ‘vagaries’ are still impinging, but I’m finally finding the art again.

The message of my paintings is of a deeply spiritual nature - I want to engage the viewer into thinking “beyond” - beyond religion, belief systems, old programming, cultural influences. “Know thyself” to me, is the key to wisdom and understanding. The repetitive images of my work demonstrate how every line, every shape, is part of a whole, and every little part has a relationship with its surroundings, and affects them in a very personal way. Every painting speaks of the microcosm and macrocosm concept of nature or the world around us.

I moved to the Boundary in 2014 and took up painting on canvas. I paint from my own photos and imagination to produce the scenes I prefer. I love the natural world and try to paint the environment and then paint the animal or bird as an 'accessory' to the environment. It is very important to me to capture the very essence of the animal in my paintings so I take great care to capture their character as an individual, not just another fox or bird. see joie's work
With no formal training, I have a strong desire and need to create. I have had a passion for making art since I was 15 years old. Ideas will continue to turn over and over inside my mind until they are brought into the light of day. Some turn out and some don’t. I call my art, “the art of letting go” as I’ve found that by letting go of ideas and concepts that no longer work for me I have been able to embrace my creative side and learned that creativity is an adventure and not all adventures are the same.
