Before There Was Light

Peter Morin

May 23 - July 12, 2014

This installation by Peter Morin is based on the Tahlatan story on what the world was like before the coming of light when mountain goats lived in valleys and fish roamed the land. This exhibition will be a continuation of Morin’s exploration of issues of de-colonization and indigenous identity and language. Morin will include performance art and involvement by the local aboriginal community.

Other projects Peter has been involved with include Peter Morin’s Museum presented by the UBC Museum of Anthropology in 2011, Revisiting the Silence 2011 and Carrying on “Irregardless” at the Bill Reid Gallery, the Big Button Blanket project 2014 at First Peoples House UVic. Morin was guest curator for the Understory/Overstory held at gallery 2 in 2013.

Tahlatan performance artist, writer and curator Peter Morin recently moved from Victoria and currently teaches at the University of Brandon in Manitoba.  Peter will be in attendance at the opening reception of his installation Before There Was Light on Friday, May 23, 2014 from 12 pm to 1:30 pm.
