Call and Response: Selected works from A Piece of the Pie & Blunt Force Illumination.
Brent Bukowski works with found objects— primarily metal and glass. His compositions are inspired by the observation of global patterns from the perspective of a simple and secluded lifestyle in the mountains of the West Kootenays. His assemblages achieve a high level of detail, in which broken and cut glass are layered in and around metalwork. Since 2000, he has been working on a trilogy of environmentally-themed works: Invasive Species (2000-02), an installation that illustrates the mass extinction of species and the evolution of our natural environments; A Piece of the Pie (2005-06), a series of sculpture that examines some of the expansion of world consumption; and Blunt Force Illumination (2013- ) a series that studies the interplay of environment, economy and society within the framework of sustainable development. In 2001, Invasive Species was installed in the old Grand Forks Public Art Gallery. Call and Response will bring selected works from A Piece of the Pie & Blunt Force Illumination into the gallery 2, completing the trilogy.
